Water Features: Adding Serenity and Style to Your Landscape
Water features bring a sense of calm, natural beauty, and sophistication to any landscape.
There's something inherently calming about the sound of flowing water. Water features have been used in landscape design for centuries, and today's options range from simple bubbling fountains to elaborate pond and waterfall systems — perfect for backyards across Greater Vancouver.
What Types of Water Features Can You Install?
Popular water feature options include pondless waterfalls that recirculate water without a visible pond, bubbling rock fountains perfect for smaller spaces, koi ponds that add life and color, and formal fountains that create a sophisticated focal point.
What Are the Benefits of a Water Feature Beyond Aesthetics?
Water features do more than look beautiful. The sound of flowing water masks neighborhood noise, creating a peaceful retreat in your own backyard. They attract birds and butterflies, adding natural life to your landscape. And studies show that the sound of water reduces stress and promotes relaxation.
What Should You Consider Before Installing a Water Feature?
When planning a water feature, consider placement for maximum visual and auditory impact, access to electricity for pumps and lighting, and maintenance requirements. A professional installation ensures proper waterproofing, filtration, and pump sizing.
How Much Maintenance Do Water Features Require?
Most water features require minimal maintenance — occasional cleaning of pumps and filters, adding water to compensate for evaporation, and winterizing for BC's cooler months. Pondless systems are the lowest maintenance option.
