Spring 2026 Landscaping Trends: What's Hot This Year

Every spring brings fresh inspiration for homeowners across Greater Vancouver looking to elevate their outdoor spaces. 2026 is no exception — this year's trends combine sustainability, technology, and bold design choices that make a real statement.

What Are the Biggest Outdoor Kitchen Trends in 2026?

Backyard BBQs are evolving into fully equipped outdoor kitchens. Homeowners in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Surrey are investing in built-in grills with granite countertops, pizza ovens, bar seating, and even plumbed sinks. These spaces extend your home's living area and are perfect for entertaining.

Is Drought-Resistant Landscaping Worth It in BC?

With water conservation becoming increasingly important in British Columbia, xeriscaping and native plantings are gaining serious traction. Ornamental grasses, lavender, and sedum create stunning visuals while requiring minimal irrigation — perfect for Lower Mainland summers.

Why Is Mixed-Material Hardscaping So Popular?

Gone are the days of single-material patios. The hottest designs combine natural stone with concrete, wood with pavers, and metal accents with masonry. This layered approach creates visual depth and unique character that we're seeing across Coquitlam, Richmond, and Langley.

How Do Smart Irrigation Systems Save Water?

Wi-Fi-connected sprinkler controllers that adjust based on weather data are becoming standard in Greater Vancouver. They reduce water waste by up to 50% and can be managed entirely from your smartphone.

Are Vertical Gardens a Good Option for Small Yards?

For smaller yards common in Vancouver and Burnaby, vertical gardens maximize green space without sacrificing square footage. Living walls on fences or exterior walls add lush texture and can even improve home insulation.
